The Hunter Wetlands National Park is a national park in the east of the Australian state of New South Wales , nine kilometers north of Newcastle. The park includes waterfront areas in the estuary of the Hunter River , both the southern and the northern branch. The west coast of Fullerton Cove belongs to the park.The Kooragang Swamp Reserve and the Hexham Swamp Reserve , former state reserves, went to the national park on the northern outskirts of Newcastle, as well as on Stockton Sand Split and part of Ash Iceland. The wetlands provide a shelter for migratory and domestic waterfowl.
